Welcome to the first of many newsletters that will spotlight how the team is bringing the Roots for Boots Mission to fruition! For those who may not be familiar with the work we do, Roots for Boots functions primarily in the York/Adams area of Pennsylvania. We are 100% volunteer and are completely funded by the local community – whether through fundraisers, donations, grants or Foundations. Our core values are all verbs … Serve, Educate, Inspire! The goal is to meet any need or challenge a veteran, active duty or military family may have. The non-profit gives both military and non-military members opportunities to serve this country with their own gifts, talents and resources. We are an enthusiastic, passionate team that gets results! Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering or may have a service person in need.
Roots for Boots, CEO
Our community has a passion for getting our disabled veterans outdoors! This past December, through the generosity of the local community, Roots for Boots was able to secure a third Action Trackchair for Hanover veteran, Jeremy Jacoby. He lived for the day he could pull his young son on a sled. We were happy to make that day a reality as we included a toboggan and personalized wagon for Jeremy to pull his son on with the chair. The community gathered at Hanover Middle School on December 21st to surprise Jeremy. He was escorted to the school via military vehicles where he was greeted to lights and sirens of the local fire department while a Formation Line of fellow veterans, family, friends, supporters and even Santa Claus greeted him as he entered the building. Operation Backyard Buddies is one for the memory books … MISSION COMPLETE!
Good Cookie is slang for a Good Conduct Medal. This section recognizes a team member who has gone above and beyond to embrace the Roots for Boots philosophy of using your own gifts, talents and resources to assist us in our Mission to meet the needs and challenges of our servicemen and women and their families. This month;s Good Cookie Alert goes to local Hanover resident, Tess Sterner, whose gifts are endless! She bakes, creates auction items, assists in ramp builds, volunteers at just about all events and is a passionate of our monthly MilitaryShare program. Her generosity and compassion for our veterans has no end. Roots for Boots is very blessed to have her and her husband on the team!
We salute Drew and Colton pictured with their Marine grandfather! These 5th graders raised $240 worth of canned goods for our March Military Share. Drew and family also dropped off a $50 check at our Random Acts of Kindness Day at Texas Roadhouse. Way to serve your country boys … and Semper Fi Grandpa!
A second Roots for Boots salute for Halle, Delainey and Nick who raised $1,200 for us with a Christmas light show and hot chocolate stand during the Christmas season. No better way to celebrate the holidays than to give back to others … Way to go kids!
Great examples of our youth CAUGHT DOING GOOD!
